Lesson 1 · Integration by parts

Integration by parts

∫u dv=uv−∫v du\displaystyle\int u\,dv = uv - \int v\,du.

Watch out: the minus sign, and signs inside ∫v du\int v\,du.

Lesson 3 · Partial fractions

Partial fractions

  1. Factor the denominator.
  2. Find AA, BB by cover-up.
  3. Integrate: ∫Ax−r dx=Aln⁡∣x−r∣\displaystyle\int \dfrac{A}{x - r}\,dx = A\ln|x - r|.

Watch out: check by recombining the fractions.

Lesson 4 · Choosing an integration technique

Which technique?

  • Inside + its derivative: substitution.
  • Unrelated product: parts.
  • Factorable denominator: partial fractions.

Watch out: x2+a2x^2 + a^2 (arctan) and x2−a2x^2 - a^2 (fractions) differ.
